Collision: A Poem

September 29, 2026

Vila’s favorite scent is the perfume of an indoor pool. She’s not really sure why. It could be due to chlorine inhalation. Art is freedom to her, which is why she loves sewing her own clothes, making her own plates, photographing her toy poodle, animating dancers, drawing people, crafting dresses out of Christmas wrapping paper, and spinning on the ice rink. A fabric store to her is like a bookworm’s favorite library, and she would love to create her own clothing line. Her dream is to create beautiful things that ameliorate people’s lives, discover solutions to what others deem impossible, and ice skate on a real pond without falling in.

Pledge to Take Action

In my poem “Collision,” the speaker yearns to become a shadow to avoid being judged while at the same time knowing that being invisible means she won’t be able to help others.
