As we evaluate the feedback you’ve generously shared with us for #BeKind21, one theme rang clear: self-kindness is a priority for our individual and collective mental wellness. Thank you for sharing stories about how you prioritized caring for yourself and encouraged others to do the same.
World Mental Health Day is this Sunday and I want to share a profound act of self-kindness we can all pledge to do, and that is to promise to stay at PleaseStay.us.
Born This Way Foundation partnered with our friends at Find Your Anchor to launch Please Stay for World Mental Health Day in 2020 in response to concerning research findings about youth mental health and suicidal ideation as a result of the pandemic. Please Stay is a space where you can find resources for support, evidence-based self-care tips, and suggestions for anchors. Anchors are anything that keep us here from day-to-day or moment-to-moment. My anchors right now are cinnamon tea, my daily phone check-ins with my mom and daughters, writing in my gratitude journal, and taking walks outside to enjoy the beginnings of fall. What are yours? Tell me using #PleaseStayPledge on social media. We’ve also placed physical reminders to Please Stay around the U.S. and globe through kind notes, signs, and even billboards.
Another important anchor for me, and I’m sure for you as a member of our Born This Way Foundation community, is offering support to others. We kindly ask that you share about Please Stay and invite others to care for their mental health.
You can share this link: PleaseStay.us and you can click here to access our social media toolkit to help share about Please Stay online.
I hope you’ll join us in pledging to prioritize your mental health this World Mental Health Day – and always – because you deserve the care, attention, and kindness you always wish for others.
