Roochute – The Rainbow Parachute Mental Health Movement

January 16, 2018

Katie Gormley, 24, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. She moved to Nashville in 2010 to study nursing at Belmont University. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital on an acute inpatient child and adolescent unit where she had the opportunity to lead group sessions on coping skills, nutrition, sleep hygiene and mindfulness meditation. Recently Katie transitioned into the role of School Nurse working within the Metro Nashville School system. In her downtime, Katie enjoys yoga, going to concerts with friends and hiking.

Ever get that feeling of pure nostalgia when you see a rainbow parachute?

Check out this parachute, Roochute, that is making waves of kindness at major music festivals (e.g., Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Coachella), in the local community of Columbus, Ohio. The team at Roochute welcomes you to relive your favorite day in gym class, Parachute Day, and to take a moment to have meaningful conversations about your mental health and wellness in a safe space. Channelkindness Reporter, Katie Gormley met with Roochute co-founders Patrick Fromuth and Ron Holgado on the farm at Bonnaroo to discuss their mission to end the stigma around mental health.  “With each bloom, we encourage each person to ‘pay it forward’ – the happiness created underneath the parachute radiates through acts of kindness and positivity.” -Ron
